UCSF Hybrid Quarterly Construction Meeting November 6
After the recent pedestrian tragedy at Parnassus and Stanyan, this meeting will provide a forum to come together as a community and ask UCSF to work with MTA to make the neighborhood safer. UCSF construction has many years ahead so we need to voice our demands for how they should be mitigating the presence and danger of heavy trucks and what reasonable safety investments should look like so that we don't have to fear or witness another death over the next 6 years of construction. We hope you can attend.
Please join UCSF on Wednesday, November 6th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. for a hybrid community meeting about upcoming construction and other planned projects at UCSF’s Parnassus Heights campus.
UCSF will share the progress of campus projects and potential impacts on the neighborhood, including but not limited to:
· UCSF Health Helen Diller Hospital
· Bakar Research and Academic Building
Location: UCSF Parnassus Heights Campus
Faculty Alumni House
745 Parnassus Ave, San Francisco, CA
Light refreshments will be served.
Please register to attend either in-person here or virtually by Zoom here.

I'm pleased to invite you to the
2024 Family Wealth Forum!
To RSVP, click here!
This annual event reflects one of my key priorities as Assessor-Recorder, ensuring that all San Franciscans, regardless of income level, have access to the tools and opportunities to build a resilient home, grow wealth and plan for the future.
In addition to educational presentations, the 2024 Family Wealth Forum will include a resource fair and 1-on-1 consultations with Assessor-Recorder staff who can address questions on property taxes, annual notices of assessed value, intergenerational transfers, property tax exemptions, reassessment exclusions, business personal property and more.
The presentations will focus on the following topics:
Assessment Appeals 101: Assessor Torres will discuss the options that are available to you under State law if you disagree with your assessed value or feel that your taxable value is lower than your market value, as well as the type of information you will need to gather as you file an assessment appeal. Assessor staff will also be available to answer questions about assessment appeals during 1-on-1 consultations, as well.
Home Improvement Resources and Tax Savings: From solar energy systems to earthquake retrofits, there are certain types of construction that will not lead to an increase in your property tax burden. Assessor Torres will discuss these opportunities for saving money and increasing the quality of your home in addition to the scenarios that can lead to a reassessment.
Proposition 19 and Intergenerational Transfers: Passed in 2020 by California voters, this State law changed the property tax rules for transferring your property. Assessor Torres will discuss key elements of the law that homeowners should be aware of when considering passing your family home to the next generation.
Estate Planning 101: Housing and Economic Rights Advocates (HERA), a non-profit legal service organization will discuss the importance of estate planning across all stages of your life to ensure that your intentions are honored and help your family build wealth from one generation to the next. In addition to receiving an introduction to core elements of an estate plan, such as a living trust, will, advanced healthcare directive and power of attorney, there will also be opportunities to receive referrals to affordable estate planning services.
The resource fair will include the following organizations:
California State Controller
California Department of Insurance, Community Relations and Outreach Branch
San Francisco Department of the Environment Equity Hub
San Francisco Office of Financial Empowerment's Smart Money Coaching Program
San Francisco Planning Department
San Francisco District Attorney Financial Crimes Team

TogetherSF x GrowSF Mayoral Debate
All eyes are on San Francisco this year. Come to the first-ever, can’t-miss, make-or-break, make-them-sweat mayoral debate on May 20.
MEET THE CANDIDATES
Mayor London Breed
London Breed has served as the Mayor of San Francisco since her election to the office in July 2018. Previously, she served on the Board of Supervisors from 2013 until Mayor Ed Lee's death in December 2017, when she became acting mayor for a short period. She was also the Executive Director of the African American Art & Culture Complex from 2002 to 2012. In her time as mayor, Mayor Breed’s administration led San Francisco through the COVID-19 pandemic with notably low death rates, and opened close to 400 behavioral health treatment beds in the city.
Mark Farrell
Mark Farrell served as Interim Mayor of San Francisco from January to July 2018 after the Board of Supervisors temporarily appointed him to succeed London Breed. Previously, he served on the Board of Supervisors starting in 2011, and has been the managing director of Thayer Ventures since 2009, excepting his time in office. In his time as acting mayor, Farrell’s administration cleared San Francisco’s largest homeless encampments in six months.
Daniel Lurie
Daniel Lurie is the founder of Tipping Point Community, a nonprofit designed to fight chronic homelessness and poverty in the Bay Area. He served as the CEO of Tipping Point Community from 2005 to 2019, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2020 to 2023. In 2017, Lurie started the Chronic Homelessness Initiative, committing to raise $100 million over two years to reduce chronic homelessness in the city by 50 percent.
Supervisor Aaron Peskin*
Aaron Peskin is the current president of the Board of Supervisors, serving District 3 since his election in 2015, and two previous terms from 2001 to 2009. Throughout his career, Peskin has leveraged city government power to preserve and expand historical districts in San Francisco through the California Environmental Quality Act and the Historical Preservation Commission.
*Declined to participate in debate
Supervisor Ahsha Safaí
Ahsha Safaí has served on the Board of Supervisors since his election in 2017. Previously, he was the Political Director for the San Francisco Janitors Union – Local 87 from 2008 to 2016. Safaí added Prop B to the ballot for the March 2024 primary election, and introduced an ordinance this year to make Homeward Bound a permanent city program.

Volunteer Guidelines
The supervising gardener is your host. Please respect his/her knowledge and experience. Park gardening is not the same as home gardening. Ask questions and seek assistance.
Safety:
Please wear closed-toed shoes. Wear comfortable clothing that covers your entire body (long sleeves, long pants, etc.) And don't forget the sunscreen and perhaps a hat!
Wear gloves and use tools provided in ways demonstrated by the work crew supervisor.
“Eyes before hands.” When picking up trash from under bushes, behind trees, and under benches, use the tool provided to pull things out where you can see them. Then pick them up.
Be aware of the locations of other workers and members of the public to ensure your safety and theirs.
Lift with your legs, not your back.
Wear long sleeves, long pants, and closed–toed shoes (ideally boots); you may be work in or around poison oak or blackberries.
Avoid picking up broken glass and hypodermic needles. Notify the gardener if you find anything undesirable.
Drink water to avoid dehydration. Wash hands or use hand sanitizer before touching and eatingfood
Volunteers are not allowed to use power tools, or apply herbicides/pesticides.
Work Site:
Stack debris out of the way of the public but still accessible to staff trucks. Stack cut branches with butt end to road. Keep bagged trash separate from organic debris, weeds separate from brush. Pile weeds to be picked up in small piles (handled by one swoop of pitchfork) so that staff can easily load trucks.
Coffee With A Cop is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 3-5 p.m.
at the Golden Bear Trading Company, 1401 6th Avenue.

Join Sutro Stewards, UCSF and SF Recreation and Parks Department for a morning of habitat restoration activities, such as invasive species removal, and help restore Woodland Canyon Creek on Mount Sutro!
This creek begins at the Summit of Mount Sutro in two tributaries that converge in Woodland Canyon, flanked on one side by the Edgewood trail, and on the other side by the lower Historic trail. Some are lucky to hear this seasonal creek after a heavy rain, but it is never seen because it is hidden under so much overgrowth. Help us uncover it!
